LONDON ROLLERGIRLS ~ The Great British Roller Derby League
Posted: September 9th, 2007 by LRG
Well, our first bout is over, and HOW AWESOME WAS THAT?? We’re all recovering from the adrenaline, the hits and falls, and the alcohol consumed at the afterparty! If you were there, we hope you had a blast (we certainly did!) and if you weren’t, you missed out! A massive thank you to everyone who came down and supported us. It was amazing to skate in front of a (sellout!) crowd for the first time, and we cannot wait to do it again - we hope you’ll all be back to cheer us on. Special shoutouts to all the other UK leagues who came down. We can’t wait to bout you!
We’ll have full writeups and photos up shortly, but in the end Team Black was victorious over Team Pink, 100 - 77.
If you liked what you saw and you’re interested in skating with us, or helping out in some other way (we need more refs, stats people, scorekeepers etc too) please come over to our forum and say hi, or send an email to info@londonrollergirls.com, and let us know. We’ll be happy to have you!
Stay tuned for info on our next bout… (you can also join our mailing list by emailing info@londonrollergirls.com to be updated on practices, events and bouts)
In other news, we were featured on Woman’s Hour on BBC Radio 4 on Friday 7th Sept - go here to listen to us on the radio! We were also in the Independent newspaper yesterday. You can read the story online here.
Til next time…

Grace’s love of skating began as a young girl, when she borrowed a pair of those ancient one size fits all metal contraptions that were strapped to your shoes from a girl at summer camp. And then refused to give them back without a fight! Thus, a rollergirl was born… Grace may be tiny, but just you watch out, one of these days she’s gonna sneak up on you and bite your kneecaps! X
