The DLR is not running that weekend, how on earth do i get to ExCeL?!
Don’t panic! Although the DLR is down, there are still plenty of ways to get to ExCeL and the biggest Roller Derby Event in the UK…
By Car
From the M25:
Take Junction 30 of the M25, and head into London on the A13. Take the North Circular A1020 South towards Woolwich Ferry, then follow signs to ExCeL
From Central London:
Head West out of Central London on the A13 towards Canary Wharf and the Docklands. Immediately after the Blackwall Tunnel turning, head Right onto the A1020, signposted Woolwich Ferry and ExCeL. Follow sings from there.
Parking:
Parking at ExCeL is plentiful. Head for the BLUE Multi Story Car Park, then head on foot to the West Entrance. All ExCeL Parking is pay and display or pay on exit.
By Train/Tube
Pick up the Jubilee Line at your nearest point. Take it East from Central London towards Stratford, and get off at CANNING TOWN.
From Canning town there are numerous Rail replacement buses that will ferry you to ExCeL in 6 minutes flat. It is possible to walk it in ten minutes or so, but please do not do this unless you are very confident of your route- Canning Town is not a good district to get lost in, in most instances our advice is to please put your safety and the safety of your fellow derby fans first, and get the bus.
The 241 and 147 buses also go straight to ExCeL from canning town.
**ExCeL and DLR Transport for London have agreed to lay on extra services at our peak times, so you will not have to wait long for a bus**
Getting home from the after party
Us Rollergirls love to party, and really hope you will join us raising a glass or three at our after party, which will be at The Fox at ExCeL- its a super venue, right outside the halls, and we will be dancing the night away/celebrating/commiserating there until about 1am.
If you arent staying nearby, (those of you in nearby hotels will be able to roll from the party to your bed in about 3 minutes flat!) you will need to get a night bus back into central London.
The N551 goes from outside Custom House ExCeL DLR (right outside the Fox!) straight to Trafalgar square and takes 37 minutes. from there night buses go all over London.
The N551 stops include: Limehouse- Tower Gateway- Bank- St Pauls- Charing X- Trafalgar Sq.
Use www.tfl.gov.uk to plan your journey home and find your nearest night buses. Remember to stay safe in London, don’t travel alone late at night and avoid walking.
Need a Cab? Text ‘CAB’ to 60835 and you will receive a text with 2 local licensed minicab operators and one taxi company number.

FOR THE BOOTCAMPERS!
You need to get to ExCeL between 8 and 9am on Saturday 20th March. Come to the West Entrance.
You will be registered in the boulevard outside the hall, but smooth, shiny and inviting as the floor is, please don’t put your skates on until you are inside the hall.
After the bootcamp/before the bout -4 to 6pm- you won’t be allowed into the hall whilst we are setting up for the bout. You will have two spare hours - go grab some food/a power nap/begin the festivities/freshen up, then come back for a good seat for the game of the year! (Don’t be too long though as I’m sure you’ll want to be first through the door to grab the trackside seating).
Food/drink
Whilst the Bootcamp and the bout are running, there will be a Costa Coffee, a Delice de France (yummy bakery things and sandwiches) and a Whistlestop convenience store open for your last minute snacks or breakfast right outside the hall.
A few minutes walk away there are two more mini marts which sell a range of things.
Lunch: You will need a good lunch if you are training all day! You can:
-Bring a packed Lunch (note- we don’t have any facilities to heat up your food)
- buy something from one of the vendors nearby
-pop to our after party venue, The Fox, which is really close, serves good, reasonably priced food. They have a fairly limited veggie menu, but there is still something that should suit all tastes and our events team are badgering them to include some veggie specials just for us over the weekend.
If you think you will probably grab some lunch at The Fox, they have a discount club called ‘Velvetcard’… apply for one NOW (its free, but it is posted to you, so apply in time for it to arrive!) and you will get 15% off all food or drink at The Fox! Bargaintastic.
www.velvetcard.co.uk
Dinner: There are quite a lot of Takeaways and fast food joints nearby if that’s your bag, as well as some decent restaurants in the Hotels and an excellent Sushi joint- Sushi Ya http://www.viewlondon.co.uk/restaurants/sushi-ya-info-53787.html , about 5 minutes walk away … There is also The Fox!
The Bout Bar, which will be open for the duration of the bouts inside the hall, will serve a range of sandwiches, snacks and drinks.
Dont forget that we have an amazing lineup for the vendor village so bring all your spare pennies and pick yourself up a treat from the likes of
Billy’s Skate Shop (Atom Wheels anyone?) www.billys.co.uk ,Tatty Devine for your essential name necklaces and more www.tattydevine.com, Flamin’Cherries www.flamincherries.com and Rebel Pixie clothing www.rebelpixie.co.uk ; and lets not forget the awesome LRG and Texas merchandise on offer!
Hotels
Ok so we tried for AGES to get discount blocks at local hotels, but either there is some mad convention going on or they just hate rollergirls! Anyway, you can still book rooms at local hotels directly. There are good rates available on travelmunky.com (call them on 0800 0988289 for the best rates or email at lrg@travelmunky.com), or with the hotel websites, or with your favorite travel site. Dont be fooled by the star ratings, some of the nicer ones have cheaper rates. Novotel has rooms that can sleep 3 as well…
