BRAWL SAINTS vs BERLIN BOMBSHELLS - June 26, 2010

Full time in Berlin was Brawl Saints 172 - 79 Berlin Bombshells

The Berlin Bombshells hosted London Rollergirls’ Brawl Saints on their home turf at the Arena Halle, in an encounter billed as a prelude to the World Cup 2nd round. No disallowed goals here though, as the London ladies quickly proved to be the dominant force in this battle, but not without a spirited fight from Berlin’s broads.

With experienced stars like Dot Slash, Metallikat, Missyle Elliott and Spooky von Strange, the Brawl Saints kept a strong defence, keeping the Berlin blockers distracted to let speedy jammers Lyla la Tiger and Lola Vulkano sprint through the pack. Though Berlin Bombshells’ captain Master Blaster did some sterling work, both agile as a jammer and a strong blocker in the pack, the Brawl Saints’ strategic knowledge proved to be too much for the German team. London used the “wolves and gazelles” tactic to their advantage, racking up the points when the Berlin jammer was sent off, and by half time had built a comfortable lead.

The second period was littered with penalties as the heat started to take its toll on all the athletes. Rarely a jam went by when Brawl Saints did not have someone in the box, and captain Sinister Mary Clarence staked her claim for penalty queen. Berlin started to take advantage, slowly building up their score as the Brawl Saints stacked up the minor penalties. The Berlin fans really got behind their team, cheering every lead jammer they got. However, London kept strong at the front of the pack, and Berlin found it difficult to make the gaps for their jammers to get through. In the end the Brawl Saints came out on top, in a hard-fought but exciting game to watch.

The Brawl Saints would like to thank the Berlin Bombshells for hosting a fantastic weekend, and we look forward to them coming to London for a rematch!
